A Little While: Enduring Gospel Suffering (1 Peter 5:6-11)

Persecution looks different today than it did in first-century Asia Minor, but faithfulness to the gospel still costs something. In this sermon from 1 Peter 5:6-10, we look at the last key Peter gives suffering Christians, a key with three teeth: humility, sober-minded alertness, and firm faith.

We see why humility was a scandalous idea in the Roman world and what it means to throw our anxieties on God when obeying Jesus puts our family, career, or reputation at risk. We also face the reality of our adversary, who prowls like a roaring lion. The answer is neither to ignore him nor to obsess over him, but to resist him with a firm faith in the Savior who disarmed the powers at the cross. Suffering is real, but it is only for a little while.
