Thank you for considering giving your tithes and offering to the Lord through Christ the Shepherd.

GIVING AND THE ANGLICAN TRADITION

In our Anglican liturgical service, the offering comes just after the affirmation of forgiveness and before we come to the Communion Table. As we pass offering baskets to collect the gifts God’s people sacrificially bring to Him, the 2019 Book of Common Prayer invites the congregation to recite from 1 Chronicles: “Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for everything in heaven and on earth is yours; yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as Head above all. All things come from you, O Lord, And of your own have we given you” (1 Chr. 29:11, 14).

Thus, in the Anglican tradition, giving is not a mere obligation or something that members need to do to keep the congregation going. Far more importantly, giving is an act of worship and thus is fittingly a part of our gathered worship time.

GIVING ONLINE

We recognize, however, that it might be necessary and convenient to give online. So we invite the members to give through electronic means, but to remember we give out of the abundance God has given us and as a worshipful response to God’s kindness showered on us in Christ.

If you give online, you might consider holding the basket for a moment when it passes during our service as a physical reminder to yourself that you have, by God’s grace, given to the Lord!
